Does my aquarium have BBA? Black Beard Algae or Black Brush Algae (Audouinella sp., Rhodochorton sp.) is a form of red algae, similar to staghorn algae. This stubborn strain is identified by its fuzzy appearance and dark grey or black color, typically found on the edges of aquatic plant leaves, aquarium decor, equipment, and even on larger substrate grains. BBA appears as a fuzzy, tuft-like growth that is difficult to eliminate.
